Baycats Announce Roster Moves

by Ryan Eakin

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club announced today the following roster moves.

Starting pitcher Emilis Guerrero and relief pitchers Evan Chenier, Brandon Hillier, Cole White, and Hunter Campese will all return for the 2021 season.

Likewise, catcher Parker Walker will return, as will infielders Jose Vicente, Ryan Rijo, Mike Checchetto, Starlin Rodriguez, Royce Ando, and Carson Burns, as well as outfielders Jeff Cowan, Branfy Infante, Kenny Di Clemente, James Anderson, and Adrian Guttierez.

Pitcher Matthew St. Kitts has retired, while fellow pitcher Santos Arias will not be returning.

Baycats President David Mills said he wishes St. Kitts and Arias well as they move on from the Baycats and thanked them for their years of dedication to the Baycats.

"The Baycats organization wish to extend our deep appreciation for the time and great effort that St. Kitts has given us over his years with the Baycats. Not only is Matthew a great competitor with excellent baseball skills, but he is also a class person. We, along with our fans, will miss him on the diamond. Thank you Matthew and be safe and happy in retirement.

"Santos Arias will not be returning in 2021. The Baycats organization wishes him well and thank him for the many special moments he gave us on the mound and his contributions to our championship years".

Baycats manager Josh Matlow, meanwhile, said he is excited to have secured his core group this early into his team's offseason, ahead of what will be a busy month roster wise for this team.

“I honestly couldn’t be happier with our current roster depth and experience this far out from the season. The staff worked extremely hard to make sure we have a great foundation for the upcoming season and I thank all the players who were quick to respond and jump at the opportunity to put a Baycats jersey on next summer. I think we not only have talent but strength, youth and experience at every position! We will fine-tune as we get closer to the season, but would be ready to defend our six-straight championships if the season started tomorrow! I and the staff are extremely excited, and the fans should be too."
