Big Fourth Inning Sends London Past Barrie

Barrie, ON – A strong start by the London Majors proved too much to overcome Saturday afternoon as the Barrie Baycats fell 13-4 at Athletic Kulture Stadium.

London wasted no time jumping in front, scoring three times in the opening inning. Trent Lenihan opened the scoring with an RBI single before Starling Joseph added a run-scoring hit. Tucker Zdunich capped the rally by driving in another run on a fielder’s choice, giving the Majors an early 3-0 advantage.

The Baycats answered in the bottom half when Noel McGarry Doyle came around to score on an RBI double from Francisco Hernandez, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

London broke the game open in the fourth inning. Joseph led off the frame with a solo home run before the Majors continued to pile on. David Draayers drew a bases-loaded walk, Maikol Escotto delivered an RBI single, Cristian Inoa ripped a two-run double, and Zdunich followed with a two-run double of his own as London stretched its lead to 11-1.

Barrie managed to get one run back later in the inning to make it 11-2, but the Majors continued to add on. Zdunich singled home a run in the sixth before Jaden Babiuk brought another home with a groundout, extending the advantage to 13-2.

The Baycats showed some late life offensively. Wandy Ciprian launched a solo home run in the seventh inning, his first of the season, before Clayton Keyes drove in Noah Hull with an RBI single in the ninth to round out the scoring.

Zdunich led the London offence, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Joseph went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jarrett Burney also collected three hits for the Majors.

Travis Keys earned the win for London, while Frank Garcés was charged with the loss for Barrie.
