Wickett Walks It Off as Baycats Win Sixth Straight in Extra Innings
Barrie, ON – I get it—the Blue Jays are doing well. But listen, Barrie: your Baycats are the hottest team in the IBL right now after defeating the London Majors 6–5 in ten innings Saturday afternoon. How about Alex Wickett? He just continues to wear out opposing pitchers. The Barrie second baseman provided the walk-off single, scoring Tristan Clarke, who is also scorching hot and had another big game today.
An encouraging sign from this afternoon—along with all the other positives that come with a six-game winning streak—is that, for the second time this season, the Baycats managed to sneak away with a win even when Frank Garcés wasn’t at his best. The Baycats came back from a 5–2 deficit in the sixth to walk it off.
Garcés still threw seven innings on Saturday, keeping his team within striking distance while punching out nine. Clarke’s massive two-run shot in the seventh—which cleared the 405-foot sign in centre field by quite a bit—knotted things at five. Both Baycats home runs went to centre field, as the second Barrie run came on a Noah Hull line shot over the wall in a very similar spot.
Braedan Pakkala was lights out once again, pitching two scoreless innings with the game tied late. It was Carlos Sano who got the win, setting up the walk-off with a scoreless tenth, escaping a bases-loaded jam.
With the winning run 90 feet away and two outs, Alex Wickett delivered once again with a line drive up the middle, sending Clarke to the plate to win the game.
FINAL SCORE: Baycats 6, Majors 5
NEXT UP: The Baycats are back home Sunday night against the Guelph Royals at 7:05 p.m.
