RIJO, EJOH, AND GARCÉS LEAD BARRIE TO 7-4 WIN AGAINST HAMILTON.

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE — From a rainy Vintage Throne Stadium, the Barrie Baycats defeated the Hamilton Cardinals 7-4. The story continues to be Frank Garcés who racked up another spectacular outing.

Due to Frank's performance, it was all Baycats early on as they scored two in the first and four in the second. Ryan Rijo, with Canice Ejoh and Starlin Rodriguez on base, lined one up the middle scoring them both making it 2-0. Then, in the second, Ejoh led Barrie with a two-RBI single.

That would be it for both teams early on. Cardinals starter Logan Walters settled in for three scoreless innings to end his day. Walters was charged with the loss. On the winning end was Garcés pitching seven innings, giving up two earned runs, and striking out seven. Adam Khan finished the last two innings of pitching for Barrie.

Hamilton would score four runs late in this one. That was in large part due to the day Luis Bernardo had. The Cards' third baseman went two for four with a home run and scored a pair of runs. Josh Cote drove in the seventh run for the Cats with a base hit in the seventh inning.

Starlin Rodriguez and Noel McGarry-Doyle picked up flashy defensive plays. Rodriguez snagged a line drive jumping for the ball at shortstop and McGarry-Doyle, from left field,  threw out Brandon Nicholson trying to score.

Here are some notes from today’s game. 1. Cardinals second baseman Tristan Osika had to leave the ballgame with what appeared to be a leg injury. 2. Four Baycats picked up multi-hit games this afternoon (McGarry-Doyle, Rodriguez, Rijo, Odd). 3. Frank Garcés is now 4-0 and has won his last four decisions.
