London Edges Barrie 3-0 behind Strong Pitching
London, ON – The London Majors defeated the Barrie Baycats 3-0 on Friday at Labatt Park. In a game marked by strong pitching, the Majors came through when it mattered most late in the game to secure the win.
The story of the game was the exceptional performance from London’s pitching staff. Starter Travis Keys (6-2) delivered a solid seven-inning performance, holding the Baycats to just four hits and striking out eight. His command was impeccable, allowing only one walk while keeping Barrie off the scoreboard.
Relief pitchers Skylar Janisse and Victor Payano closed out the game with equal effectiveness. Janisse pitched a clean eighth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Payano wrapped things up in the ninth, allowing a single and one walk while securing his third save of the season.
London’s offensive production was modest but timely. The Majors broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kaiden Cardoso belted a solo home run, his seventh of the season. The lead was extended in the eighth inning when Victor Plaz hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, while Cleveland Brownlee drove in the third Majors run with a single to centre, scoring Eduardo De Oleo.
Despite a solid effort from Baycats starter Frank Garcés (7-2), who went the distance with eight innings pitched, allowing three runs on nine hits, the Baycats’ offence was unable to capitalise on a few key opportunities late in the game. Garcés did not walk any batters and struck out five.
Majors win 3-0.
