Baycats’ Win Streak Ends in 7-3 Loss to Royals
Barrie, ON – The winning streak has come to an end, as the Barrie Baycats were defeated by the Guelph Royals 7-3 Sunday night at Athletic Kulture Stadium. Guelph capitalized on two hit batters and three walks in the seventh inning to score three runs — the difference in the game.
Cesar Rosado got the start for Barrie and kept the game close through five innings, striking out five. Guelph first baseman Garrett Takamatsu’s fourth home run of the season put the Royals in front in the sixth, knocking Rosado out of the game.
Left-hander Ethan Morris appeared to be dealing with something physically after coming in for Rosado in the sixth and was quickly removed. Ramon Henriquez then entered and induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Noel McGarry Doyle tied the game in the bottom half with his third home run in the past four days. McGarry Doyle now has five home runs in 2025 with the Baycats, along with six doubles and 11 runs batted in.
Henriquez did not have the same results in the next inning, as he and Chris Lazar struggled with command, allowing three Royals to cross home plate without surrendering a hit. Takamatsu finished with three RBI, and Andy Leader added a pair as Guelph struck late for the win.
Royals starter Edgar Garcia earned his first win of the season, while Brandon Deans recorded the seven-out save. Cesar Rosado was charged with the loss.
FINAL SCORE: Royals 7, Baycats 3.
NEXT UP: The Baycats travel to Brantford this Friday to take on the Red Sox at Arnold Anderson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
