Baycats win second straight with 11-6 win in Brantford

Brantford, ON – Last Saturday saw the Baycats score just two runs in a 3-2 loss to Chatham-Kent. Since then they’ve scored 22 runs in two games and collected back to back wins.

Friday's 11-6 win over the Brantford Red Sox saw lots of good things from the bats. It started the way you may expect. A leadoff homer from Canice Ejoh because why wouldn’t that be the case.

“Nothing he does surprises us anymore,” said Baycats manager Josh Matlow. “It’s nice to get a lead and kind of coast a little bit rather than all these one run ballgames.”

The “supporting cast” – as some might say – around Ejoh was great too. Noah Hull and Hayden Jaco added to the lead in the middle innings before Carson Barker – who came in after Nolan Machibroda was ejected after disagreeing on a safe call at first base – hit a three run home run to right centre to blow the game open.

That was way more than enough run support for Frank Garcés who was “classic Frank” tonight, described by Matlow. Garcés settled in nicely and held Brantford to just a pair of runs. Oscar Moreta and Brad Grieveson combined to pitch the final three innings, allowing most bullpen arms to rest ahead of the weekend.

Next up for the Baycats is another trip to Welland Saturday night at 6:05 pm ET before returning home Sunday to face Guelph at 6:08 pm.
