Baycats Smash Leafs 20-4 as Garcés Sets Single-Season Strikeout Record

Barrie, ON – The Barrie Baycats exploded for a season-high 20 runs on Thursday night, dominating the Toronto Maple Leafs 20-4 on Vintage Throne Pack the Park night.

Frank Garcés was sharp on the mound for Barrie, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out eight. The offence backed him early and often, plating five runs in the second inning, four more in the fourth, and a massive seven-run outburst in the seventh.

With his first strikeout of the night, Garcés set a new Baycats single-season strikeout record. The previous mark – set by Cesar Rosado last season – was 105, and Garcés now sits at 113 in 2025. According to Baycats Manager Josh Matlow, that number will likely hold, as the ace is not expected to pitch again until Game 1 of the playoffs.

Nolan Machibroda had a big night, going 4-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBI. Tristan Clarke homered, doubled, and drove in three, while Antonino Spencer-Thompson added a pinch-hit home run – his first in the Intercounty Baseball League – and two RBI. Tyler Plumpton chipped in three hits and three RBI, and Brandon Hernandez reached base four times, driving in two.

Machibroda also took the mound for the ninth inning. With a big lead, the Baycats had a little fun as he closed out the 20-4 win, ending Barrie’s four-game slide.

Toronto’s only offence came late, scoring twice in the seventh and twice more in the ninth. Starter Franklin Hernandez took the loss after surrendering five runs in just 1.1 innings.

FINAL SCORE: Baycats 20, Maple Leafs 4
