Baycats Sign Left-Handed Pitcher Saul Vasquez for 2026
Barrie, ON — The Barrie Baycats have signed left-handed pitcher Saul Vasquez for the 2026 season.
Vasquez, 25, will be entering his first season with the Baycats and brings a wealth of professional experience from both the Mexican League and the Mexican Pacific Winter League. The Merida, Mexico native has spent the past several seasons pitching for clubs including Leones de Yucatan, Caliente de Durango, Yaquis de Obregon, Algodoneros de Guasave, and Naranjeros de Hermosillo.
Across five professional seasons, Vasquez has appeared in 107 games, making 25 starts, while recording 241 strikeouts over 222.2 innings pitched. He owns a career 4.08 ERA across all levels and has consistently demonstrated the ability to contribute in both starting and relief roles.
Vasquez began his professional career in 2018 in the Chicago Cubs organization, making four appearances with DSL Cubs 1 in the Dominican Summer League. Since then, he has continued to develop in Mexico, including a standout winter season with Yaquis de Obregon in 2024-25, where he posted a 1.95 ERA over 37.0 innings.
