Baycats Secure 3-0 Victory Over Royals in Game Two

Guelph, ON – Exhale

Looking at how many times the Baycats' pitching stranded promising opportunities by the Royals in tonight’s game, you would think that a 3-0 Barrie win was very unlikely. A total of 15 baserunners were left on base thanks to some clutch pitching.

Cesar Rosado won the battle between the Intercounty Baseball League’s strikeout leader (himself) and the ERA leader, Jacob Kush. Rosado tossed six gutsy innings of shutout baseball, striking out 11 and earning his second playoff win of 2024.

The Baycats, on offence, came through with a three-spot in the fifth inning. That was all they could get off Kush, but Canice Ejoh’s two-out RBI single broke the scoreless tie, which was followed by two more runs, knocking Guelph’s righty out of the game.

A packed Hastings Stadium did not get the best of Barrie tonight as the Cats came up with big play after big play on defence. Nolan Machibroda made a diving catch to rob Ashton Patterson of driving in at least one in the seventh inning.

Then in the eighth, Adam Odd snared a sharp ground ball to throw out Frankin Torres. After first baseman Malik Williams caught the ball, he alertly whipped it back to Odd to nab Andy Leader, who was trying to advance to third.

Christian Lazar threw a scoreless seventh, benefiting from Machibroda’s catch in left field. Brad Grieveson came in to work the final two innings in what was one of his better appearances this season. Grieveson picked up the six-out save.
