Baycats Blanked by Brantford
Brantford, ON – The Barrie Baycats ran into a red-hot Brantford Red Sox offence on Friday night, falling 15-0 at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
The game was scoreless through two innings before Brantford erupted for five runs in the third. A two-run single by Christian Ortega and a sacrifice fly from Cassidy Watt highlighted the rally. The Red Sox matched that total in the fourth, taking advantage of four walks and timely hits from Andrew Savage and Kevin Delvecchio to make it 10-0.
Brantford kept pressing, adding two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two more in the eighth. Ortega’s third-inning home run was his seventh of the season, while Savage collected three doubles and drove in a run. Lucas Bateman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
The Baycats’ offence was held in check by Red Sox starter Connor Irvine, who allowed just four hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none. Nicholai Arbach closed it out with two shutout innings, striking out three.
Barrie’s best scoring chances came in the middle innings, with Clayton Keyes picking up two hits and Noel McGarry Doyle, Brandon Hernandez, Tristan Clarke, and James Anderson each adding singles. However, the Baycats stranded eight runners and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
On the mound, Jonathan Warden took the loss, surrendering five runs on three hits and five walks over two innings. Jason Roach and Ramon Henriquez followed, with Brad Grieveson finishing the night. Collectively, Barrie pitchers allowed 15 hits and nine walks, striking out 10.
The good news for Barrie is London also lost, falling 7-6 to the Guelph Royals. With that the Baycats remain in second place.
