Barrie Baycats Mourn the Passing of Longtime Team Vice President Paul Marley
The Barrie Baycats organization is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime owner and Vice President Paul Marley.
From his early days as a multi-sport athlete to his lifelong roles as a coach, administrator, sponsor, and community leader, Paul dedicated his life to the growth and development of sport in Barrie and surrounding communities. Hockey and baseball were central to his athletic career, and his passion for teamwork and leadership carried through every stage of his involvement in sport.
As an executive, Paul’s impact on the Barrie Baycats is immeasurable. In 2001, he co-organized the construction of what was then Barrie Metal Stadium (now Athletic Kulture Stadium) and helped establish Baycats Baseball. He went on to serve the organization as Vice President for 21 years, stepping down at the conclusion of the 2021 season. His steady leadership and long-term commitment were instrumental in shaping the Baycats into the organization they are today.
Paul’s contributions to sport were recognized with numerous honours, including an induction into the Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame and an induction into the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame in 2022, alongside longtime Baycats President David Mills.
Beyond the field, Paul was a dedicated member of the Barrie Rotary Club, where he initiated and championed campaigns that directly improved the quality of life for Barrie residents.
Paul Marley’s legacy is one of service, leadership, and community. His impact will be felt for generations within the Barrie Baycats and the broader sports community. We extend our deepest condolences to Paul’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
