Adam Odd's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Baycats to Dramatic 12-10 Game One Win in 12 Innings

Barrie, ON – That was only game one.

Adam Odd walks off the Royals!

It was 9-5 Barrie heading into the top of the ninth when Guelph stormed back for four runs to tie the game, silencing the crowd at Vintage Throne Stadium. What was a 9-3 Baycats lead going into the eighth inning was now a 9-9 tie going into extras.

One key moment that some fans might forget was Royce Ando’s game-tying base hit in the tenth inning. The Royals had come all the way back to take the lead thanks to a sac fly from former Baycat Carson Burns.

Ando’s single kept things going in a game that had so many momentum swings. Guelph was two strikes away from winning an extra-inning game on the road as Drew Durst had been brilliant out of the bullpen for manager Dino Roumel, tossing three solid innings in relief.

The big moment had to come, and thankfully for Baycats fans, it was for the home side. With Hayden Jaco on first and one out in the bottom of the 12th, Adam Odd, who had already hit one home run in the game, belted another with plenty of cheering to follow. The Baycats are winners in game one.

Carlos Sano, after walking off the mound in the ninth having let in the tying run, gave his team three solid innings of extra-inning relief and earned the win in this one. Drew Durst, despite his strong efforts for Guelph, was charged with the loss.

Odd finished with six runs driven in and was a triple away from the cycle. Nolan Machibroda added four hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. For the Royals, Ethan Hammond went three for five with a home run and a walk.

Frank Garcés pitched seven innings of two-run baseball, striking out eight.

Baycats win 12-10 in 12 innings.
