ROSTER MOVES: Ejoh Signed, Garcés Activated, Kuzemka Traded to Brantford
BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats signed outfielder Canice Ejoh and activated pitcher Frank Garcés on Monday afternoon's off day. In corresponding moves, the team has also traded outfielder Christian Kuzemka to the Brantford Red Sox, and placed Brad McQuinn on the inactive list.
Ejoh, who is from Toronto, Ontario, played college for both the Canisius Golden Griffins and The Seton Hill University Griffins, hitting .327 during his final season with the Griffins. Following that, he played for the Salina Stockade of the Pecos League, where he hit nine home runs in 31 games. Ejoh joins the Baycats following a two-season stint with the Aigles de Trois-Rivières (Frontier League). In 2022 with the Aigles, Ejoh hit .284 with a .370 on-base percentage and five home runs.
Garcés has been activated by the Baycats after re-signing in the offseason for his third year with the franchise. The 2018 IBL pitcher of the year will join a rotation that currently includes Emilis Guerrero, Jeifry Nunez, and Evan Soules. Christian Mullen, currently dealing with a shoulder injury, is expected to rejoin the rotation once healthy. Garcés, who is from the Dominican Republic, counts as a player signed under the IBL's Import Player rule, and will take the Baycats Import Player spot vacated by Kuzemka starting on June 1st.
Kuzemka, who played in all five games thus far this season for the Baycats, heads to Brantford to continue his IBL season. He has been traded in exchange for future considerations. In those five games, he played in the outfield, hitting .118. The Baycats organization would like to wish Kuzemka the best in his continuing IBL career.
McQuinn, who joined the Baycats in 2022, has been placed on the inactive list. McQuinn left May 25th's game against the Hamilton Cardinals with a quad injury after one at-bat.
The Baycats face Guelph in their next game, which is on June 1st at Vintage Throne Stadium. You can get tickets to that game here.
