RE-SIGNED: Frank Garcés Back with Baycats in 2023

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club has announced the re-signing of starting pitcher Frank Garcés for the 2023 IBL season.

The 33-year-old left-hander resumes his third separate stint with the Baycats after a solid 2022 season in which he sported a 2-3 record and a 3.38 earned run average over five starts during the regular season.

Garcés’ first stint with the Baycats came in 2018, when he posted a 7-0 record and a 0.38 ERA over seven regular season starts, helping the Baycats win their fifth-consecutive Dominico Cup championship.

His professional career started when he signed as an international free agent with the Texas Rangers in 2009. After eight appearances with the Rangers’ Dominican Summer League affiliate, he was released at the end of the 2009 season and would later sign a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres in 2011.

After spending 3 years through the Padres’ minor league system, Garcés would eventually see time in the majors in 2014 and 2015 in San Diego where he totaled 57 appearances, including one start, and accrued a 0-1 record and a 4.60 ERA.

Garcés would spend the 2016 season with the Padres’ triple-a affiliate El Paso Chihuahuas before spending the following season with the Saitama Seibu Lions of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, and then beginning his first stint with the Baycats in 2018. He spent 2019 in the Mexican League before rejoining the Baycats last season.
