Pitching Duel Ends in Extra-Innings Loss against Toronto
Barrie, ON – In the early hours of the morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off an extra-innings win over the Barrie Baycats by a final score of 2–1. Just like in the Baycats’ home opener, it was Dennis Dei Baning who delivered the game-winning hit in the tenth inning.
If you like pitching, you’ll want to rewatch Thursday's game on Baycats TV. Matt Brown for Toronto and Frank Garcés for Barrie duelled for the majority of the night. Both received no decision, but some could argue both deserved the win. Brown struck out seven over five innings, giving up one run. Garcés punched out 12 through seven, also allowing just one run.
Jhon Javier — fielder’s choice in the first inning — and Francisco Hernandez — RBI single in the fifth inning — drove in the runs for their respective sides. The Baycats left 11 runners on base.
Carlos Sano was charged with the loss after giving up a go-ahead RBI single to Dei Baning in the top of the tenth. The Toronto right fielder was then ejected after exchanging words with the Baycats dugout, causing almost the entire Maple Leafs dugout to empty. Fortunately, nothing escalated too much from the scuffle.
Adam Jafine shut the door and earned his first win of the 2025 season.
FINAL SCORE: Maple Leafs 2, Baycats 1.
NEXT UP: The Baycats are back in action Friday night in Hamilton, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. on Cable 14.
