Owen Jansen Named IBL All-Star in First Full Season

by the Baycats Media Team

BARRIE - It was a tremendous season for Owen Jansen, and now he gets to celebrate as an All-Star.

Jansen, who hit .357 in the 2022 regular season across 34 games, was named as an IBL Second-Team All-Star by the IBL Coaches and Management following the playoffs. As one of Barrie's primary infielders throughout the season, Jansen enjoyed a breakout year in front of the fans; he finished the season tied for first on the team in hits (46), doubles (8), and triples (2).

Jansen was also named a Second-Team All-Star in the Broadcaster's Vote, voted on by the broadcast teams across the Intercounty Baseball League. Noel McGarry-Doyle was also voted a Second-Team All-Star in the Broadcaster's Vote.

"It was a great year for a guy that we were all looking forward to watching from the first game," said Baycats TV analyst Patrick Melbourne. "As a guy who excels both at the plate and in the field, he's extremely deserving of the All-Star votes."

Jansen was also voted third place in the Rookie of the Year voting, with Welland's Sam Cawker voted first.

Former Baycats Claudio Custodio, Jordan Castaldo, and Conner Morro were also named 2022 IBL All-Stars. You can view the complete results here.
