Leafs Hold Off Late Baycats Push in 10–6 Win
Toronto, ON – The Barrie Baycats showed some fight late in Wednesday night’s game, but it was too little, too late, as the Toronto Maple Leafs won 10–6. Both teams had six-run innings, but the Leafs scattered runs throughout, behind a brilliant start from Franklin Hernandez.
Hernandez only pitched five innings but gave up nothing other than three hits and struck out eight Baycats. The Toronto starter earned the win. Dylan Oborne followed Hernandez with two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
Jason Roach, Chris Nagorski, and Ramon Henriquez each threw an inning, keeping the game where it was. Adam Khan finished the six-run third, giving up a run in all three of his innings of work. Barrie starter Johnathan Warden was charged with the loss, going two and two-thirds and allowing six runs.
Noel McGarry-Doyle went two-for-three with a walk, two doubles, and two runs driven in out of the leadoff spot. The Baycats also got some production from juniors Austin Boylan, Joshren Magnaye, and Alex Wickett, who each drove in a run during the six-run eighth.
Justin Marra went four-for-four, scoring two runs, one coming on a third-inning two-run shot down the right field line. Jhon Javier (double) and Jordan Castaldo (single) each drove in a pair in the third.
FINAL SCORE: Maple Leafs 10, Baycats 6.
NEXT UP: The Baycats host the Welland Jackfish Thursday night at Athletic Kulture Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m.
