Late Rally Falls Short as Majors Walk Off Baycats in Extras
London, ON – The Barrie Baycats erased a four-run deficit with a strong middle-inning comeback, but the London Majors had the final answer as Starling Joseph delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning to hand Barrie a 5-4 loss Wednesday night.
With the game tied entering the tenth, Cristian Inoa reached base and moved into scoring position before Joseph lined a single into left field, bringing home the winning run and sending the Majors to victory.
London opened the scoring in the second inning when Jarrett Burney drove in Starling Joseph with an RBI single to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, Adam Thuss broke the game open with a three-run home run to left field, extending the Majors' lead to 4-0.
The Baycats chipped away in the fourth. Edgar Figueroa reached ahead of Francisco Hernandez, who doubled to center field to score Figueroa and cut the deficit to 4-1.
Barrie completed its comeback with a three-run sixth inning. After Edgar Figueroa and Francisco Hernandez reached base, Ryan Rijo ripped a two-run double to, bringing home both runners and trimming the deficit to one. Moments later, Hayden Jaco lined an RBI double to score Rijo and even the game at 4-4.
Both bullpens took over from there, keeping the score tied through the seventh, eighth and ninth innings before London's walk-off in the tenth.
Francisco Hernandez led the Baycats offensively with a 3-for-5 performance that included an RBI double. Ryan Rijo drove in two runs, while Hayden Jaco added the game-tying RBI. Edgar Figueroa scored twice in the loss.
For London, Starling Joseph finished 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI, while Eduardo De Oleo collected two hits. Adam Thuss provided the biggest swing of the night with his three-run homer in the second inning.
