GARCÉS DOES IT AGAIN, BAYCATS WIN 4-0

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE — Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That is exactly what Frank Garcés said to the Welland Jackfish this afternoon. The Baycats win 4-0 over Welland and move to within a game and a half of first place.

Garcés tossed his second complete game in as many weeks, this one being a three-hit shutout. In the words of many, it was vintage Frank Garcés today, reminding us all that he still has his stuff from his unforgettable 2018 season.

“We call him Frank the Tank for a reason,” said Baycats Manager and GM Josh Matlow. “Frank wants the ball and it’s hard not to give him the ball,” he added. “Just being able to battle through it and finish it out in the ninth,” said Frank’s teammate Noel McGarry-Doyle.

McGarry-Doyle also played a big part in today’s victory. Hitting a two-run home run in the third inning, Noel put Barrie out in front and they never looked back. The 22-year-old now has four home runs with 22 RBI. While he will have to leave in the coming days as he heads into his senior year of College, here’s what he had to say about his time with the Baycats this season.

“Just the environment we got here, the fans, the teammates, everybody here,” he said. “Just plays a part in the memories I [made] here.” With his departure, Barrie’s depth will be tested and guys who don’t normally start will get more reps to fill the gaps.

NEXT UP: The Barrie Baycats are headed to Brantford tomorrow for a 2:00 pm start at Arnold Anderson Stadium. You can buy road tickets here.
