GAME RECAP: Owen Boon leads Majors to Big Canada Day Win Over Baycats

by Patrick Melbourne

LONDON - It was a big win for the London Majors over the Barrie Baycats on Canada Day; their starting pitcher Owen Boon was brilliant, and he led the Majors to a 7-0 win over the Baycats.

Boon (6-0) went seven strong innings, allowing only five hits and striking out 12 in a scoreless outing. Relievers Braeden Ferrington and Cesar Cabral finished the game for London with a scoreless inning each. The strongest inning for the Baycats offensively was the ninth - the team loaded the bases against Cabral with only one out, but the Majors overcame it with an unassisted double play from third baseman Gibson Krzeminski.

Juan Benítez (3-3) took the loss, although he pitched fairly well overall - outside of the third inning, he gave up only two runs. In that third inning, the Majors got three doubles and scored four runs. Those six runs would lead to a 6-0 lead that would stay the score until the bottom of the eighth inning, where the Majors scored another on a solo home run from Keith Kandel.

Malik Williams and Jake Wilson both finished the game with two hits, and Juan Familia hit his third double as a Barrie Baycats player in only his fourth game with the team.

NEXT UP: The Baycats will return home to face the Brantford Red Sox at 7:00 PM ET tomorrow. You can get tickets to that game here, or watch it live on Baycats TV and ROGERS tv Barrie (Cable 10).
