GAME RECAP: Guelph Royals Beat Barrie Baycats In Barrie

by Patrick Melbourne

BARRIE - It was not the game the Barrie Baycats had envisioned in their Sunday night return to Vintage Throne Stadium. The Guelph Royals came into town and won 15-3 over the Baycats in their second meeting of the season. With the loss, the Baycats are 6-6 on the season.

Riley Hoover (1-1), the starter for Barrie, was unlucky in this appearance, giving up four runs across 2/3 of an inning; and although he'd pitched better than that would suggest, the team was down 4-0 early and needed a big game from their bullpen.

Unfortunately for the Baycats, the Royals brought their best at the plate no matter who was pitching. Dalton Pompey reached base six times, Claudio Custodio (the same Claudio Custodio who has an ERA of 1.71) improved his batting average to .583, and Malik Collymore hit a home run.

Emilis Guerrero (2-1) was the main story for the Royals though - he was on the mound for seven shutout innings, and got the win for the Royals.

NEXT GAME: The Baycats will look to forget about this one throughout the week, and they'll face Hamilton this Thursday at home. You can get tickets to the game here, or watch live on Baycats TV.
