GAME RECAP: Baycats Win In First Road Game of Season

by Patrick Melbourne

KITCHENER - The Barrie Baycats got their third straight fantastic performance of the season from their starting pitchers, and they beat the Kitchener Panthers 6-4 in their first road game of the season.

Riley Hoover, making his first start of the season for the team, was excellent - he held the Panthers to only two runs until the sixth inning, where Kitchener added two more. Hoover's strong performance on the mound in this spot start is likely to lead to more opportunities for the 23-year old left-hander.

Out of the bullpen, Aidan Rossel, Evan Soules, and Brad Grieveson were brilliant, combining for four scoreless innings.

At the plate, both teams were strong (Stephen Whalen and Tyler Hinrikus both homered for the Panthers), but the Baycats were stronger. Ryan Rijo led the way with a home run - his big fly in the third inning scored Brendan Colley and helped give the team a 4-1 lead. The Baycats would have the lead for the rest of the game.

With the win, the Baycats improve to 3-0. The team will face Guelph in their next game on Thursday night. The game will begin at 7:30 PM ET at Vintage Throne Stadium. You can get tickets online here or find an in-person location to buy tickets here.

FINAL: Baycats 6, Panthers 4
WIN: Riley Hoover (1-0)
LOSS: Adam Robertson (0-1)
SAVE: Brad Grieveson (1)

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Riley Hoover delivered a great start for the Baycats - he's our choice for Player of the Game. Ryan Rijo was also great in this game, and both Michael Cecchetto and Brendan Colley deserve a lot of praise for how well they played in secondary positions.
