GAME RECAP: Baycats Win in Exciting Walk-off Finish

by Patrick Melbourne

MIDHURST - The Barrie Baycats won an exciting one in Vintage Throne Stadium on Saturday night, beating the Brantford Red Sox 3-2 on a walk-off hit from Owen Jansen. The hit scored Tyler Plumpton and got the crowd on their feet cheering.

Jansen, the Baycats Player of the Game, went 4-4 in the game with two RBI. He is now hitting .345 on the season with two home runs and 19 RBI.

The Baycats got great pitching in this one - starter Riley Hoover was brilliant, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and an unearned run. Brandon Hillier struck out three across two innings of perfect relief, and Chris Cox (1-2) got the win. The loss went to Gabe Bruder (0-5). Brantford starter Garrett Larner was excellent on the mound today as well, with seven two-hit innings in one of the best pitching performances by a Brantford Red Sox pitcher this season.

One of the best moments of the season came in the third inning of this game, when Baycats catcher Dylan Shepherd hit a home run in his first career home appearance. Shepherd, who made his first appearance for the team in last night's game in London, was given loud cheers from the crowd as he crossed the bases.

With the win, the Baycats are now 12-9 on the season.
