GAME PREVIEW - BAYCATS VS MAJORS (JULY 29TH, 2023)

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats are back at home for a pair of games this weekend with the first one being against the London Majors. Both these teams won yesterday with Barrie beating Brantford and London beating Welland. With a win today, the Baycats would clinch the season series against the Majors guaranteeing at least four wins out of the six games played.

Barrie’s ace Frank Garcés takes the mound and unfortunately for the pitching fans, he will not be up against Owen Boon, Boon pitched last night going eight innings against the Jackfish. But if you are a Baycats fan, a Frank Garcés start is definitely one worth seeing. Garcés, with his 2.64 ERA which is second in the league, is having his best season since 2018 when he was 7-0 with a 0.38 ERA.

Wins are very important, especially at this point in the year. For the Baycats, securing fourth or better in the IBL guarantees them home field for round one of the playoffs. Even better, second place will get them home field for the first two rounds. Even though every team gets in, seeding is very crucial if you want to play in front of your own fans.
