GAME PREVIEW - BAYCATS AT RED SOX (JULY 28TH, 2023)

by Sam Aucoin

BRANTFORD – It is time for game two of four as this action-packed weekend of Baycats baseball continues. Tonight will be the second time Barrie makes the trip to Brantford with their first matchup in the telephone city resulting in a 20-15 loss on July ninth.

The Baycats (18-10) sit tied with Kitchener for second in the IBL standings. As mentioned in yesterday’s game preview, Barrie’s pitching situation this weekend, while still interesting to see play out, the probable starters are very clear. Jeifry Nunez (2-2, 4.80 ERA} will go tonight in Brantford. Nunez is coming off a five-inning three earned run performance in Kitchener where he kept his team close in a 4-2 loss. Frank Garcés (4-0, 2.64 ERA) gets the start Saturday at home against London and Evan Soules (2-2, 7.32 ERA) goes Sunday against the Royals.

Another question that emerges from last night's game is when will Starlin Rodriguez be back. There was some noise that we could have seen him last night but he did not get into the game and he is not in tonight’s lineup. A developing story that we will probably know the answer to sooner rather than later.

But the story tonight is there’s a ball game to be played and for Barrie, it is a chance to get back into the win column and gain some momentum going into the weekend. Tyler Plumpton will get the start behind the plate moving Cote to first base. Take a look at the full starting lineup.
