GAME PREVIEW - BAYCATS AT MAPLE LEAFS (JULY 12TH, 2023)

by Sam Aucoin

TORONTO – The Barrie Baycats will face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight for the fourth time this season. Barrie is 3-0 against Toronto so far scoring ten or more runs in every game against the Leafs this year.

Lineup and Starting Pitcher

Noel McGarry-Doyle, Canice Ejoh, Starlin Rodriguez, Ryan Rijo, and Hayden Jaco have been the consistent top five for a number of games this season. It remains the same tonight. But the bottom, once again, has some switch-ups. Kyle Maves moves back down to ninth and Avery Tuck is now in the sixth spot.

They will play behind right-hander Juan Benítez who is looking for a bounce-back start. Benítez was on the losing end of a 14-2 loss to the Kitchener Panthers. Other than that outing, Juan has been very good this season allowing just two earned runs in the three appearances leading up to the one against the Panthers.

Player Spotlight: Avery Tuck

Avery Tuck picked up his first two hits since rejoining the Baycats recently. This could be all he needs to get going on a hot streak as he had six multi-hit games following his first hit back in 2021 with the club. Tuck has great speed in the outfield and will be lethal on the bases. Not to mention getting into scoring position for the top.

Game information

Tonight's game starts at 7:30 from Dominico Field at Christie Pits. Entry is free but if you can’t make it down, the Maple Leafs will be streaming it on their YouTube. Enjoy the game!
