GAME PREVIEW - BAYCATS AT JACKFISH (AUGUST 10TH, 2023)

by Sam Aucoin

WELLAND – As the regular season comes to an end, the feeling of playoff baseball is just around the corner. It is the second to last weekend until the postseason and may be the most important. Tonight’s game in Welland marks the start, one that will heavily impact Barrie’s chances of winning the pennant.

Two teams that have been battling all season long for that first-place spot. The Baycats held the number-one spot for a couple of days during late June when they were in Welland for two Saturdays in a row taking both games. Since then, it has been the Jackfish that have held the top spot with Barrie and Kitchener fighting to overtake them.

Known today as the Rose City Timber Tigers, Welland’s season can be described as going from cool to red hot, cool again, and back to red hot. Last weekend they had another cool down losing games to the Baycats and Panthers, two teams that have given the Fish trouble this year. Even with their success against the Jackfish, this will be a difficult match-up for the Cats, one that they will look to take advantage of and close the gap in the standings.

This premier matchup starts at 7:25 pm from Welland Stadium. You can tune in on Welland’s YouTube to watch this can’t miss contest. Enjoy the game!
