GAME PREVIEW - BAYCATS AT JACKFISH

by Sam Aucoin

WELLAND – Here comes the biggest test of this hot stretch. The Barrie Baycats will face off against the first-place Welland Jackfish tonight at Welland Stadium. The Jackfish are on a winning streak that doubles Barrie’s plus another with 13 straight victories.

Lineup and Starting Pitcher

The Baycats could not have a better guy starting for them tonight in Frank Garcés. Garcés is coming off an absolute masterpiece of an outing in London. Pitching seven innings of shutout baseball, Frank also had a perfect game going through six and 2/3 earning his first win of the season. The left-hander faced these Welland Jackfish back on the eighth of June. He threw six and 2/3 innings giving up three earned runs and picking up six K’s.

There are some changes in the middle and bottom of the lineup today. Adam Odd slides up to sixth. Owen Jansen will make his second start at first base. Victor Plaz is back in after dealing with swelling on his hand and will be at third base and Kyle Maves gets his first start as a Baycat playing at shortstop.

Here is the Full Starting Lineup.

1. LF - Noel McGarry-Doyle

2. CF - Canice Ejoh

3. RF - Starlin Rodriguez

4. DH - Ryan Rijo

5. 2B - Adam Odd

6. C - Josh Cote

7. SS - Kyle Maves

Players to look out for

Kyle Maves: New to the Baycats this season is Kyle Maves who got his first at-bat on Thursday and will make his first start today. Maves comes to the team after playing his senior season in College. Kyle hit .358 with 29 RBIs and an impressive 30 stolen bases per Julius Hern of Baycats TV.

Ryan Rijo: Ryan Rijo said after the last game against Toronto that he feels his swing from last year's postseason has come back. This is extremely good news for fans. Rijo hit three home runs in three playoff games last year and has hit four home runs in his last four games this season.

Owen Jansen: Similar to Carson Burns last game, Owen Jansen in the nine spot has the potential to make this lineup even better, setting up the top of the order. This will be crucial for team success.
