Custodio Signs Minor League Contract with Orioles

by Ryan Eakin

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club is proud to announce today that former ace Claudio Custodio has signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles for the 2021 season.

Custodio, 30, was a two-way player for the Baycats during our record-breaking 2017 season, where he went 7-1 with an earned-run-average of 2.29 in 70.2 innings pitched that year.

Striking out a staggering 99 batters that season, Custodio also appeared in the Baycats' lineup 12 times, recording an OBP of .633, an SLG% of .636 and an OPS of 1.269 in 48 at-bats.

From there, Custodio signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in the spring of 2018, making it all the way to AAA with the Buffalo Bisons after starting the season out with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League.

Custodio then signed with the Atlanta Braves organization for the 2019 season, where he would wind up being named the Mississippi Braves (AA) pitcher of the year.

Custodio -- the only former Baycat who is currently pitching in the minor leagues -- is currently suiting up for Estrellas Orientales of the Dominican Winter League.

The Baycats organization would like to wish continued success to Custodio as he continues to chase his big-league dream.
