Baycats Use Three-Run Eighth to Beat Cardinals 6-3

The Barrie Baycats broke a late tie with three runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Hamilton Cardinals 6-3.

Barrie opened the scoring in the first when Nolan Machibroda drove in Noel McGarry Doyle with an RBI single. Hamilton answered with two runs in the second, but Machibroda brought home McGarry Doyle again in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Francisco Hernandez gave Barrie the lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth before Reyny Reyes' solo home run tied the game at three in the seventh.

The Baycats took control in the eighth. Clayton Keyes delivered a clutch two-run single to centre field, scoring Noah Hull and Machibroda, before Kristyan Puyol-Genossar added an RBI single to bring home Wandy Ciprian and extend the lead to 6-3.

Boris Vecerka earned the win with two hitless innings out of the bullpen, striking out five while allowing one walk. Carlos Sano worked a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to earn the save. Juan Benitez started for Barrie, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out three. Machibroda finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.
