Baycats Sign Wilson for 2021 Season

by Ryan Eakin

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club announced today that we have signed outfielder Jake Wilson for the 2021 season.

Wilson, 22, just completed his senior season at Liberty University after spending his first four years in college at Bowling Green State University.

At Liberty this past season, the New Lowell, Ontario native recorded a stat line of .259-.332-.332, to go along with 11 stolen bases.

Wilson, whose 11 stolen bases were tied for fifth among Canadians playing D1 baseball, made the ASUN All-Tournament team for his efforts this past season.

The left-handed bat, who is considered to be a five-tool player due to his incredible fielding ability in the outfield, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2016.

Baycats manager Josh Matlow says he is thrilled to add Wilson's local bat and defence to the Baycats lineup.

"Jake is not only a great baseball player but a local player who grew up cheering for the Baycats. Now he gets to put on a Baycats uniform and be on the other side of the fence with us and we couldn’t be happier! We expect Jake to play a big role for us at the top of the lineup game in and game out."

Wilson, who played for the Great Lake Canadians during his travel ball career, says he is excited to come home and play for the Baycats.

"I’m excited and honoured to play for the Baycats! Hopefully, I can help in bringing home some wins for the fans.”
