Baycats Sign Chenier for 2020 Season

by Ryan Eakin

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club announced today that pitcher Evan Chenier has been signed for the 2020 Intercounty Baseball League [IBL] season.

Chenier, 19, is in his sophomore season at Virginia Commonwealth University.

In his freshman season, Chenier appeared in nineteen games -- all in relief -- throwing forty-three innings while going 6-0 with an earned run average of 3.56 and WHIP of 1.32.

The 6'5", 215 lbs Georgetown, Ontario native pitched for the Lethbridge Bulls of the Western Canadian Baseball League last summer -- Canada's best collegiate baseball league --  appearing in five games -- and starting three.

He went 0-1 with an earned run average of 3.21.

Baycats general and field manager Josh Matlow said he is excited to welcome Chenier to the Baycats organization.

"Adding Evan is huge for our organization. Not only does he have a live arm but he’s young, in great shape, and hungry. He will play a vital part throughout the season and hopefully into the future for us as either a starting pitcher or reliever.  Not only has he proven himself at all levels but seems to be a great human being. I am all about young humble kids who want to be apart of things. I think this is a great opportunity for not only, Evan, to get a great experience at the IBL level but for the organization to have a player and person like Evan."
