Barrie, ON – This team is on a mission.

With a 6-1 win over the Guelph Royals in Game Three of the 2024 Dominico Cup Finals, the Barrie Baycats are one win away from capturing their eighth IBL Championship in franchise history.

Juan Benítez started and was what his teammates call “Playoff Juan.” He threw eight really strong innings, allowing only one run while striking out five. Juan picked up his third playoff win of 2024.

For the Baycats, it was a two-run first inning and a three-run fourth inning. Canice Ejoh and Brandon Hernandez each had three hits, with Hernandez driving in a pair. Malik Williams and Nolan Machibroda also drove in one run each. Barrie added a sixth run in the seventh inning.

Evan Grills, tonight’s starter for Guelph, struck out 13 Baycats but was charged with the loss. Garrett Takamatsu, with three hits, drove in the only run for the Royals in the game. Royce Ando and Hayden Jaco denied two other scoring chances for Guelph, each making a diving catch.

Carlos Sano came on to work the ninth inning and threw a 1-2-3 frame to close out the game.

Baycats win 6-1.
