Baycats Re-Sign Right-Handed Pitcher Carlos Sano for 2026
Barrie, ON — The Barrie Baycats have announced the return of right-handed pitcher Carlos Sano for the 2026 Canadian Baseball League season.
Sano, a native of San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, brings extensive professional experience back to Barrie, highlighted by time in affiliated baseball, international winter leagues, and independent professional leagues. He spent two seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization, reaching as high as Triple-A in 2019. Across 78 appearances in the minor leagues, Sano logged 233.1 innings, striking out 238 batters while posting a 14-12 record and a 4.32 ERA.
Following his time in affiliated baseball, Sano competed in winter ball, pitching three seasons in the Nicaraguan Winter League with Gigantes de Rivas during the 2021-22, 2023-24, and 2024-25 seasons. In 25 appearances, he recorded 117 innings, a 3.92 ERA, 93 strikeouts, and a 7-4 record.
Sano also spent three seasons in the Frontier League, pitching for the Tri-City ValleyCats in 2021, the Québec Capitales in 2022, and the Ottawa Titans in 2023. Across 32 Frontier League games, Sano logged 162.3 innings, striking out 113 batters with an 11–7 record and a 5.28 ERA.
Sano joined the Baycats ahead of the 2024 season, appearing in 15 games primarily out of the bullpen while serving as the club’s closer. He took another step forward in 2025, delivering his most effective season in Barrie. Over 26.1 innings, Sano posted a 1.02 ERA, struck out 26 batters, and recorded seven saves, earning an Intercounty Baseball League All-Star selection.
Sano returns to Barrie following back-to-back seasons as a key member of the Baycats’ bullpen.
