Baycats Launch Sixth Annual “For The Love of The Game” Equipment Drive

Barrie, ON — The Barrie Baycats are excited to announce the return of the For The Love of The Game Equipment Drive Fundraiser, entering its sixth year of helping kids in the Dominican Republic gain access to much-needed baseball equipment.

First launched in 2020, the initiative supports communities and organizations in the Dominican Republic, where equipment such as gloves, bats, helmets, and cleats can be difficult to access or afford. The Baycats are once again teaming up with fans this holiday season to continue growing the game and making a meaningful impact.

Fans can drop off gently used baseball equipment at Barrie Chrysler (395 Dunlop St W, Barrie, ON) from now until December 31. Donations can be brought directly through the front doors of the dealership, where all collected items will be stored under their Christmas tree throughout the drive.

The Baycats are accepting all types of baseball gear — big or small — including helmets, baseballs, batting gloves, bats, gloves, cleats, and socks. Any item set aside in a garage or basement could help a young player continue their love for the game.

“It’s an impact not only to our community but to other communities around the world,” said Baycats President Josh Matlow to CTV Barrie on Thursday. Matlow was in the Dominican last month scouting and dropped off some used baseball gloves collected last season. “I got to play catch with a kid with a new glove. It makes it true that this is more than just baseball.”

The Baycats thank fans and partners for their continued generosity in helping spread the game globally — one piece of equipment at a time.
