Baycats Hang On for 14-9 Win Over Panthers
Kitchener, ON - The Barrie Baycats exploded for eight runs in the second inning and held off the Kitchener Panthers for a 14-9 victory at Jack Couch Park.
Barrie sent 12 batters to the plate during the eight-run second. Noah Hull opened the scoring with an RBI single before Wandy Ciprian and Adam Odd each drove in a run. Noel McGarry Doyle followed with a two-run double, while Francisco Hernandez and Ryan Rijo added RBI doubles. Canice Ejoh capped the inning with an RBI single to give the Baycats an 8-0 lead.
Kitchener quickly cut into the advantage, scoring three in the second and five more in the third to make it 9-8. The Baycats responded with a solo home run from Ciprian in the fourth before Nolan Machibroda launched a two-run homer in the fifth, extending the lead to 12-8.
Barrie added two more in the sixth when Odd singled home Ciprian and Hull. Kitchener scored once in the bottom half, but the Baycats' bullpen shut the door from there. Carlos Sano retired all six batters he faced over the final two innings, striking out two to secure the 14-9 victory.
Braedan Pakkala earned the win, while Dionys Rodriguez took the loss. McGarry Doyle finished 4-for-6 with two RBI, Odd went 3-for-5 with three RBI, and Barrie finished with 18 hits in the victory.
