Baycats fall 15-1 to Jackfish
Welland, ON – The Barrie Baycats were on the wrong end of an offensive breakout from the Welland Jackfish, falling 15-1 Saturday night at Welland Stadium.
The Baycats opened the scoring with a run in the second inning on a Noah Hull RBI single that followed a triple from Tristan Clarke. But it was all Jackfish from there. Welland answered back with two runs in the third and added 12 more across the next three innings, capped by a four-run fifth that blew the game wide open.
Welland racked up 17 hits and stole six bases in the game. James Smibert led the way with four hits and two RBI, while Jonah Weisner drove in three runs and stole two bases. Greyson Barrett added a solo home run—his seventh of the year—as part of a two-hit night.
Baycats starter Cesar Rosado (4-4) was tagged with the loss, giving up nine earned runs over 4.2 innings. Three relievers followed, including another scoreless outing from Chris Nagorski, but the damage had been done.
On the mound, Welland’s Ben Abram (6-2) was on his game, limiting the Baycats to just one run over seven strong innings while striking out five. The Baycats managed just five hits in total, with Hull and Tristan Clarke recording the only extra-base knocks.
FINAL SCORE: Jackfish 15, Baycats 1
