Baycats Edge Cardinals 4-3 in Rain-Shortened Game

BARRIE – The weather ended things early as the Barrie Baycats defeated the Hamilton Cardinals 4-3 in just under five innings. Barrie jumped out to an early lead and hung on to win a quick one on a cloudy Tuesday night in Midhurst.

Malik Williams brought in two with a single in the first to get the Baycats on the board. Nolan Machibroda later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. Hayden Jaco’s RBI base hit in the second extended the lead to four and was all Barrie needed.

Christian Lazar got the start for the Cats. Lazar picked up his second win of the season, pitching four and two-thirds, allowing all three Hamilton runs but looked sharp through the first three frames.

Connor Hicks and Josh Niles drove in one each to put the Cardinals on the scoresheet. Luis Bernardo added a third run with a run-scoring single in the fourth. Braedan Pakkala shut down Hamilton’s rally in the fourth and that was technically the end as the game was called with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
