Baycats Drop One on the Road to Royals

by Sam Aucoin

Guelph, ON – You win some and you lose some. Tonight’s 14–1 loss to the Guelph Royals was one to put behind if you're the Barrie Baycats. Guelph’s six-run fourth inning and five-run fifth inning stood out in a strong showing from the home side’s offence.

Jacob Kush got the start for Guelph, pitching seven strong innings with seven strikeouts en route to his third win of the season. Chris Torres was on the losing end, getting pulled in the fourth inning after walking six and surrendering seven earned runs. Noah Hull had the lone RBI for Barrie—an unearned run that came on a groundout to third base.

Garrett Takamatsu and Liam Wilson both drove in three for the Royals. Wilson has always hit well against the Baycats and launched four home runs versus Barrie in his most recent IBL season in 2023, when he was with the Kitchener Panthers. Takamatsu has a home run and now seven RBIs against the Baycats in 2025.

Braedan Pakkala threw four innings out of the bullpen tonight with five strikeouts. Catcher Tyler Plumpton also found his way onto the mound for his second career IBL pitching appearance—his first since the 2021 season.

FINAL SCORE: Royals 14, Baycats 1

NEXT UP: The Baycats face the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night at Athletic Kulture Stadium. First pitch is at 7:35 p.m.
