Baycats Beat Thornhill Reds in Preseason Exhibition Game

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE — The Barrie Baycats defeated the Thornhill Reds 4-2 today in what was a great pitchers duel through the first five innings.

Thornhill got on the board first in the top of the first on a wild pitch from Baycats starter Christian Mullen. Barrie would respond to tie the game in the bottom half on a base hit from James Anderson.

The game would stay tied until the sixth inning when the home team would string together three straight hits including two RBI doubles from Dom Morea and Tyler Plumpton. Marcel Lacasse gave Barrie a big insurance run with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Evan Soules was the winning pitcher for the Baycats, pitching two innings and picking up a pair of strikeouts. Chadwick Cameron was charged with the loss. Barrie turned to Brandon Hillier in the ninth inning and he pitched a 1-2-3 frame to get the save.

The home opener for the Barrie Baycats is this Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Vintage Throne Stadium. First pitch is at 7:35 pm. Get your tickets HERE
