BAYCATS ADD CHRIS COX TO COACHING STAFF AHEAD OF FINALS

Barrie, ON – The Barrie Baycats are pleased to announce that they have added Chris Cox to the coaching staff ahead of the 2024 Jack & Lynne Dominico Cup Finals against the Guelph Royals. Cox, who spent parts of three seasons pitching for the Baycats, brings his knowledge to the bench, helping manager Josh Matlow.

“Chris has been with us since my day one (referring to when Josh Matlow took over as the Baycats’ general manager). He’s been a huge part of the organization and our rebuild,” said Matlow. “His baseball knowledge and understanding of our culture make it a perfect fit to add him to the coaching staff for this year's IBL Finals!”

The 35-year-old right-hander is suffering from nerve damage, preventing him from taking the mound. “Unfortunately, his injury has not allowed him to be on the field this summer.”

The St. George, Ontario, native played his college ball at Canisius University—then known as Canisius College—and was Josh Matlow's teammate. He was one of the first signings made by Matlow in 2020.

The IBL Finals start this Sunday, September 8, at 6:05 p.m. at Vintage Throne Stadium. For tickets to all Baycats home games during the finals, click here!
