Barrie Baycats Sign Jake Wilson for 2022 Season

BARRIE, April 19th, 2022 - An All-Star is back.

Jake Wilson, most commonly the leadoff hitter for the 2021 Barrie Baycats, is returning to the team for the 2022 season. Last season, he was named an IBL First-Team All-Star, impressing Baycats fans every night with his energetic and exciting style in centre field. Here's what BarrieBaycats.com said when he was named an All-Star:

Wilson, playing in his first season for the Baycats, became a fan favourite quickly after hitting an inside-the-park home run in his team debut. Often seen at the top of the batting order, Wilson played both outfield and infield for the club. Wilson played 29 regular season games, hitting .362 with four home runs and ten stolen bases. He finished third in the league with 47 hits across the regular season. He also scored five runs in the 2021 IBL Postseason. He was named as an outfielder on the IBL First Team All-Stars for 2021.

Wilson returns to an outfield that may rank as one of the best in Baycats history, with Noel McGarry-Doyle, Avery Tuck, Branfy Infante, and James Anderson all returning to the team this season.

INSIGHT FROM THE BROADCAST BOOTH: "The response has been clear; Baycats fans are really excited about Wilson coming back, and it's really easy to see why. He plays a good centre field, has great speed both out there and on the basepaths, and has a great bat. His OPS of .964 is a great fit for the top of the order, but it's also a great fit for the power spots. It's such a benefit for the team that he's back in the lineup for 2022. - Baycats TV analyst Patrick Melbourne
