Royals Pull Away for 6-2 Win Over Baycats

The Guelph Royals scored the first two runs of the game and never relinquished the lead, defeating the Barrie Baycats 6-2.

Guelph struck in the opening inning when Miguel Hiraldo drove in Ryan Dos Santos with a double to center field. Later in the frame, Antony Gilbert scored on a Garrett Takamatsu groundout to give the Royals an early 2-0 advantage.

Barrie cut the deficit in half in the second inning. Francisco Hernandez crossed the plate on an RBI single by Adam Odd, making it 2-1.

The Baycats evened the score in the fourth when Nolan Machibroda led off the inning by launching a solo home run to center field.

The tie was short-lived as Guelph answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Matthew Ward delivered an RBI double before Ashton Patterson reached on an error that allowed another run to score, restoring the Royals' two-run lead at 4-2.

Guelph added the final runs of the night in the seventh. Miguel Hiraldo came around to score before Victor Mascai capped the inning with a two-run home run to center field, extending the lead to 6-2.

Edgar Garcia earned the win for the Royals, while Juan Benitez took the loss for Barrie.

Antony Gilbert finished 3-for-5 to lead Guelph offensively, while Victor Mascai went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run. Machibroda paced the Baycats with a 2-for-4 performance, including his solo homer.
