Baycats Re-Sign All-Star Catcher Wandy Ciprian for 2027 Season

Barrie, ON – The Barrie Baycats have announced the re-signing of catcher Wandy Ciprian for the 2027 Canadian Baseball League (CBL) season.

Ciprian, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, returns to Barrie following an impressive rookie campaign that saw him establish himself as one of the league's top young catchers.

In his first season of professional baseball, the 21-year-old appeared in 43 regular-season games, batting .347 with nine home runs, 32 RBIs and 30 runs scored. Ciprian also recorded eight doubles, two triples and nine stolen bases while posting a .383 on-base percentage, .607 slugging percentage and .989 OPS.

Serving as Barrie's starting catcher throughout the 2026 season, Ciprian made an immediate impact on both sides of the ball, showcasing a powerful bat and an exceptional throwing arm behind the plate.

His standout rookie season earned him a selection to the 2026 CBL All-Star North Team, where he went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the league's all-star showdown in Chatham-Kent.

Ciprian was also named to the 2026 All-CBL First Team, further recognizing his contributions during his debut professional season.

During Barrie's postseason run, Ciprian appeared in seven playoff games, recording six hits and three RBIs.

With a successful first professional season under his belt, Ciprian returns as a key piece of the Baycats' lineup as the organization prepares for the 2027 CBL season.
