Baycats Handed First Loss of Season in Loss to Cardinals

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE – The perfect season is over for the Barrie Baycats as they fall to the Hamilton Cardinals 5-3 tonight in Midhurst. Strong pitching led Hamilton past Barrie in this one as Cardinals pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters.

Logan Walters got the win for the Red Birds pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing all 3 runs and striking out 10. Duncan McLaughlin recorded the save getting 6 outs in relief. Jeifry Nunez was charged with the loss, although he pitched well punching out 6 through 6 innings.

It was Clayton Keyes that provided 3 hits and 3 RBIs leading Hamilton’s offense. Leadoff man Charlie Towers also helped scoring a pair and driving in a run. James Anderson, who entered in the second inning for Brad McQuinn, delivered two hits and two RBI for Barrie in the loss.

The Baycats can’t seem to go a game yet this season without someone leaving with an injury. McQuinn was taken out early on with a quad issue. More details to come.

Barrie is right back in action this Saturday as they take on the 2-time defending IBL champion London Majors at Vintage Throne Stadium. The first pitch is at 2:05. For tickets, Click Here!
