Baycats Answer Every Challenge in 10-8 Extra-Inning Win Over Barnstormers

Chatham-Kent, ON – Twice the Barrie Baycats built a lead. Twice the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers erased it.

In the end, the Baycats found one more answer.

Nolan Machibroda delivered the game-winning RBI single in the top of the tenth inning Friday night as Barrie defeated the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers 10-8 in a wild extra-inning contest.

After Chatham-Kent erased an 8-5 deficit in the bottom of the ninth on a game-tying three-run home run from Yushin Ohta, the Baycats responded in the tenth. Brandon Hernandez scored on an RBI single from Noel McGarry Doyle before Machibroda followed with a run-scoring single of his own to give Barrie a 10-8 advantage.

The Baycats then shut the door in the bottom half to secure their latest dramatic victory of the season.

Barrie opened the scoring in the second inning when Tyler Plumpton drove home Hayden Jaco with an RBI single before Edgar Figueroa scored on a sacrifice fly from Canice Ejoh to make it 2-0.

The Barnstormers answered immediately. Owen Constantineau launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the second before adding an RBI single in the third as Chatham-Kent grabbed a 4-2 lead.

Francisco Hernandez began the comeback with a solo home run in the third before Ejoh crushed a two-run homer to right field in the fourth, putting Barrie back in front 5-4.

That score held until the eighth inning when Austin Gurney tied the game with an RBI single. Barrie responded in emphatic fashion in the ninth. Hernandez blasted his second home run of the night, a two-run shot to left field, before Hayden Jaco followed moments later with a solo homer to extend the lead to 8-5.

The advantage appeared safe until Ohta's dramatic three-run homer tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and forced extra innings where Barrie secured the victory. Carlos Sano notched his league leading fifth victory and the crazy thing is, they are all in relief.

Hernandez finished with two home runs and three RBIs, while Ejoh added a two-run homer and three RBIs of his own. Machibroda's tenth-inning single ultimately proved to be the difference as the Baycats improved to 9-3 with another comeback victory.

The Baycats and Barnstormers will play game two of their three game series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm before wrapping things up Sunday at 1:05 pm.
