PANTHERS END BARRIE'S STREAK BY A SCORE OF 14-2

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE – Good things come to an end eventually and that’s what happened today for the Barrie Baycats as they fell 14-2 to the Kitchener Panthers. Kitchener’s offense was unmatched today en route to victory.

Barrie pitchers could not keep up with Panthers starter Jacob Douglas. Douglas threw six and a third innings giving up two earned runs in a winning effort against a tough Baycats lineup. Kitchener relief pitchers did a good job shutting down any comeback from the home team. Juan Benítez was charged with the loss, his first of the season.

On the offensive side, former Baycat Marcel Lacasse and star shortstop Raul Gonzalez led the charge for the Panthers. Lacasse and Gonzalez both smacked home runs, each adding three hits and four RBI. The big blow was the top half of the fifth inning when the visitors scored six runs. From that point on, it was all Kitchener.

Here are some notes from this afternoon's game. 1. Although he had an unfortunate start today, Juan Benítez has allowed an earned run or less in three out of four of his appearances. 2. Carson Burns stays hot picking up two more hits today with a pair of runs scored. 3. Royce Ando went three for three with a walk in the losing effort.

Three days off then it’s back to game action for the Barrie Baycats. Come out to the ballpark for Christmas in July this Thursday as Barrie will welcome the Guelph Royals. The first pitch will be at 7:35 pm from Vintage Throne Stadium. Get your tickets here and if you can’t make it out, tune into Baycats TV.
