BAYCATS WALKOFF MAJORS IN A 5-4 VICTORY

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE — The Baycats get their third walk-off win of the season to edge out the London Majors 5-4. In a game that featured two of the best pitchers in the league, Barrie pulled through and is now 2-1 against London this season. This game had some delays due to the weather but no weather was stopping the Cats.

With that said, it was the Majors who struck first thanks to a two-run double by Starling Joseph that was followed by an RBI single by Cleveland Brownlee. Barrie would get two of those runs back in the bottom half when Noel McGarry-Doyle connected on his second home run of the season, scoring Carson Burns in front of him.

Today’s pitching matchup featured Baycats ace Frank Garcés and IBL strikeout leader Owen Boon. Both Garcés and Boon struck out 11 batters with Frank pitching seven innings and Owen pitching six. Each of them allowed three earned runs. Aiden Rossel and Brandon Hillier racked up scoreless innings in relief to set the stage for the Baycats offense.

Starlin Rodriguez and Josh Cote drove in the third and fourth runs creating a 4-4 tie going into the bottom of the ninth. That is when London relief pitcher Anfernee Benitez hit Owen Jansen (who was hit twice today) and McGarry-Doyle to set up bases loaded for Canice Ejoh. Benitez lost Ejoh on a walk giving Barrie a 5-4 walk-off win, their third walk-off win this season!

Two more games in a row for the Barrie Baycats. The team will be in Hamilton tomorrow and then will travel to Kitchener Monday for a makeup game. Tomorrow's game starts at 2:05 pm from Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. You can watch the game on cable14.com or buy road tickets here
