Streaking Cardinals Beat Baycats Again

MIDHURST - Slumping.

The Hamilton Cardinals defeated the Barrie Baycats 2-1 on Thursday to improve to 18-13 on the regular season.

With the loss, the Baycats fall to 21-10 on the regular season.

Cardinals starting pitcher Ben Bruan picked up the win, tossing seven and two-thirds of an inning while giving up just one earned run on six hits and one base on balls.

He fanned six batters.

Cardinals catcher Connor Patterson led the way at the plate, going two-for-three with a home run.

Baycats starting Emilis Guerrero took the loss, tossing a complete game while giving up two earned runs on seven hits.

BIGGEST PLAY OF THE GAME: Tied at one in the top of the eighth inning, Patterson gave the Cardinals the win with his solo shot.

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE GAME: Jordan Castaldo hit a solo home run in the bottom of first inning tonight, giving him thirteen home runs on the season.

It sets a new single-season Baycats record.

The record was previously set by Jordan Lundberg, who once had a season-high twelve home runs for the Baycats.

BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM THE GAME: The Cardinals are the hottest team in the league right now, and are without question a title threat this season.

While still unlikely, watch out for the Cardinals in the final week of the season.

The two seed is still very much in play.

NEXT UP: Sunday afternoon, the Baycats host the Welland Jackfish for a doubleheader.
